NEWSLETTER #102
by Wendel Werner

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #102

Hi there.

I've heard from many of you already...wondering where the newsletter for March is. At the start of the month, I was in Louisville, Ky.
attending a regional conference of the American Choral Directors Association. I was fortunate enough to have a choral composition of mine, "When The Cool Comes Down," included in a reading session (where choral directors sing through pieces to see if they'd like to purchase them for THEIR choirs). That was very flattering. The piece was performed by the jazz choir from the University of Georgia under the direction of Dr. Mitos Andaya. They did a wonderful job and they were marvelous to work with. As a result, I asked THEM if i could write some things for them. I'll be sending them three pieces at the beginning of the next school year. Hopefully, they'll like what I've done.

SO...after coming back from a VERY snowy Louisville, then there were only a few days before starting this year's UT Singers tour. Only a few days to get a lot of stuff done. That's why the newsletter is late. BUT, now that it's here...let's do this:

THURSDAY-WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13-19, 2008

3/13 -- ANTIOCH HIGH SCHOOL 11AM (NASHVILLE)

For those that don't know, this is the jazz choir for the University of Tennessee. They do a tour every year and this year we are staying in the state of Tennessee. Some of the performances cost money, so you'll want to make some calls before you attend. For all of my Nashville friends, the performance on Sunday afternoon at Brentwood UMC is free. I'd love to see ALL of you there.

SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2008
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
EASTER SERVICES
9AM & 11AM

So in case you were thinking to yourself that you'd like to spend Easter with me, here's where I'll be. I'd love to see you in what I'm SURE will be your new Easter outfit...and hat.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY, MARCH 28 & 29, 2008
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE POPS CONCERT
MORRISTOWN, TN.
7PM
$5

This year, Walters State's showchoir, Sensations...under the direction of Laura Ritter...will be focusing on four musicals:
"Showboat," "Ain't Misbehavin,'" "Sophisticated Ladies," and "Ragtime." I'll be playing some in the show and two of medleys are things that I arranged. The students are working VERY hard to make this happen. (Even having a rehearsal ON Easter. Yeah...I know.) Please come and support them.

TUESDAY, APRIL 1, 2008
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE-WOMENS ENSEMBLE
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE-CONCERT CHOIR
CONCERT ON THE SEVIERVILLE CAMPUS
7PM

This will be the Spring choral concert for the Sevierville branch of Walters State Community College. In addition to the Concert Choir from Sevierville and the Womens Choir from Morristown, we are delighted to have Sevier County High School's Choir performing on the concert as well. Peg Welch is an excellent director. You don't want to miss them.

I'll do my best to get April's newsletter to you quite early. I think you're going to want to get a lot of those performances on your calendars early. In the meantime, hopefully I'll see you sometime this month. Thanks for your support.
