NEWSLETTER #104

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #104

Hi everyone.

What a big month April was. If you don't mind, allow me to let in you on some of the RESULTS of how busy this month was.

If you recall, I had written a piece of music to be premiered by the Randolph College Chorale in Lynchburg, Virginia. I was part of a composer-in-residence that had me on the campus doing varying things throughout the week. I learned a lot of cool things that I didn't know. For instance, the jazz choir there had three of my pieces in this year's show...one of which, "Damsels In Distress," closed their show. I just learned that the college will be putting a recording of that piece and the piece the school commissioned, "The Women," on their website. (www.randolphcollege.edu) There is a large possibility that I may include those pieces on an upcoming cd focusing on choral pieces I've done. Additionally, I may return next year and do a solo piano recording there in their music hall.

I just returned from Memphis where I was one of three judges for a West Tennessee Vocal Music Education Association Jazz Choir Festival. As a result, it looks like I may have a number of pieces to write for a few of my choral teacher friends on that side of the state. Including the arrangements I'll do for the UT Singers upcoming year, that makes approximately 25 pieces of music I plan on arranging or composing between now and August 1st. Wish me luck.

Okay...the month of May...

WENDEL WERNER AND THE HOUSE BAND

THE PALACE THEATRE in CROSSVILLE, TN.

7PM (central time)

$25

YOU CAN'T ESCAPE IT!! The House Band is a living, breathing thing. With two large performances under our belt, the House Band...the new blues band...is coming back to Crossville. We have been asked to play a benefit concert put on by the local hospital that is raising money for the Relay For Life organization. The hospital was confident that they'd fill the building with people. Well, I've heard that they are close. I'll be in the Crossville area all day speaking to organizations about the concert that night. A local radio station will also be doing a live remote from the Palace Theatre between 5pm-6pm. (Central time) I'll be on the air live during that time. You may want to get your tickets as soon as possible.

WENDEL WERNER CONCERT in FLUSHING, MICHIGAN

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

7PM

Well, normally this is where I end my tours. This time around, we're coming up just for this concert. I'm hoping to blow the place out of the water this time. Some of the people that get this newsletter live in the area. Then...I expect to see you!! You won't regret it.

TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008

BLAKEFORD ESTATES in NASHVILLE, TN.

11am (central time)

During the last UT Singers tour, the group did three performances at this retirement community. That performance led to the nice people at Blakeford asking if I'd come and do a performance myself. Well, not only am I coming, but I'm bringing some of the singers you see me with all the time, Sandra Porter and Abbe Andrews. (BOTH members of the HOUSE BAND...that's right!!)

WENDEL WERNER CONCERT in WARTBURG, TN.

WARTBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

3PM

This is the first time I've been back to Wartburg in several months. I'll be there a lot of over the summer so I'll have to come up with numerous reasons for you to want to keep coming out to hear me. As it stands now, this will be the first time in about a year that the performance will be just me. (Hopefully, that will be enough of a reason for people to come this time.)

TUESDAY-MONDAY, MAY 27-JUNE 2, 2008

THE WANDA PROJECT/WENDEL WERNER TOUR

through SOUTH CAROLINA

I'm so excited about this. A lot of you all know that my siblings all make their living in the arts. While, through the years, we all have collaborated on a project here and there, none of us have ever done a tour together. UNTIL NOW!!

My sister's South Carolina-based dance company, THE WANDA PROJECT, is going on tour and they've asked me to bring some people and tour with them. Each concert will be half dance concert and half Wendel-concert. If you are interested in where we are going to be performing, get in touch or consult the website, www.wendelwerner.com. I'll make sure to post the details there.

Okay, I think that's enough. I'll look for you sometime this month. Thanks for your support.
