NEWSLETTER #108
by Wendel Werner
HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL
WERNER NEWSLETTER #108
So...how will everyone be dressing up for Halloween? I've decided my attire, but
you'll have to check the WENDELISMS on www.wendelwerner.com to see what it is. I
know it has been a while since new WENDELISMS have been on the website.
Therefore, I have two new ones for you.
I have so much stuff to discuss this month that I think it's going to bleed into
the first half of November. But before that happens, let me give a few things to
go ahead and get on your calendar.
Some of you know I've returned to the Oak Ridge, Tn. area playing at the place
that used to be The Daily Grind, now called Moondollars Cafe. Well, not only
have we set things up to where I'm there once a month through April, BUT there
are a couple of special performances coming that you may want to know about.
On November 22nd, the evening's entertainment will be me AND MY BROTHER, ERIK
WERNER. A full three hours of the two of us not having a clue as to what we are
doing. Some of you have seen this before, so you know what you're getting in
for. You also know that Erik usually brings in a lot of people. You may want to
consider reservations that night. Maybe come early and have dinner.
On January 30th, you can celebrate the next day being the Super Bowl by coming
to Moondollars and seeing WENDEL WERNER, ALAN ELEAZER, AND JEFF KILE all on the
stage for three full hours. If you don't know about these people, then trust
me...you do NOT want to miss this. Make your reservations now.
Okay...October...
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2008
CONCORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
6:30PM
If you like, you can come early and have dinner at 5:30pm. But I'll be doing a
short performance back here from 6:30pm until around 7:15pm or so. Given the
fact that I used to play here every Sunday, it will be like going home. I'm
looking forward to it.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2008
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT in CROSSVILLE, TN.
(WENDEL PLAYING THE MUSIC OF FAMOUS PIANISTS IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL)
THE PALACE THEATRE
$10
7PM
So, like I said last month, the promoter of this concert got in touch with me
and presented this idea: me playing a concert of music by famous rock and roll
pianists/keyboard players. So, basically, it's me doing a concert that I was
doing in my bedroom all through my teenage years. There was no way I wasn't
going to do this. I have Abbe Andrews and Jessica Bolinger coming to sing with
me. And I think you WILL be surprised by some of my choices!! I'm REALLY excited
about this.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 7, 2008
GIBBS HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF LESLIE GRAVES
7PM
$5
I'm accompanying this high school choral concert. I love a lot of the pieces
that have been programmed this time. I get to play some pretty cool stuff. If
you get the chance, come and check it out.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 9, 2008
LECTURE: HOW THE CITY OF JACKSON, TN. AFFECTS THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL
THE ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME in JACKSON, TN.
7pm
$$$
The University of Tennessee's Alumni Chapter that covers the city of Jackson is
having me drive over to give a lecture on the History of Rock and Roll as it
pertains to Jackson. Everyone in Jackson knows about it's ties to the Rockabilly
aspect of Rock and Roll. BUT....I'M hoping to surprise even the Jacksonians
about their city. I'm REALLY excited about speaking in the Rockabilly Hall of
Fame. Please contact the alumni chapter or the Hall of Fame about costs. Jackson
will never forget it. Trust me.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2008
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE FALL CHORAL CONCERT
1ST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
MORRISTOWN, TN.
7PM
If you aren't aware, I direct the Womens Ensemble out at Walters State. I've got
a really good group this year. We've got more people involved in the choral
program than we've had in the past six years. I think the concert will be worth
coming to Morristown, Tn. to check out.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2008
UT SINGERS CONCERT
THE PALACE THEATRE in CROSSVILLE, TN.
6PM
The local hospital is sponsoring a concert by UT's jazz choir, the UT Singers.
Since August, rehearsing ONLY two days a week, we've worked up about 45 minutes
of music that we think is going to blow you away. I've got a very talented group
of performers this year. But, you don't have to take my word for it. You can
come and see for yourself.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 17, 2008
KNOXVILLE'S JAZZ FOR JUSTICE CONCERT
performed in the venue formerly known as BLUE CATS
performances start at 7pm
I was part of this concert last year. Loads of people traveling in from all over
the place to have a place in this performance. ALL money raised from the concert
goes toward giving women in Africa a chance to go to school. This concert was a
tremendous experience last year. I expect an even grander event, especially
since the venue is a bigger place. I'm not sure yet when I'll be playing and who
I'll be playing with...but if last year is an indication, EVERYTHING will be
good. Just come and sit down. Make a night of it.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 18, 2008
MOONDOLLARS CAFE in OAK RIDGE, TN.
7PM-10PM
$25 per couple for dinner and the performance
$15 per single person for dinner and the performance
$3 for just the performance
SO, you ought to be getting used to this by now. If it's a coffeehouse
performance, then it's like me performing in your living room. FOR THREE HOURS.
That means you will never be able to guess what will happen next because I won't
know. It's a great amount of fun. Come on down.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 21, 2008
SEMINOLE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
JOINT CONCERT WITH JAZZ CHOIR AND WENDEL WERNER
ORLANDO, FL.
7PM
So, I met the director of choral activities, Dianna Campbell, at a conference
for choir directors last March. A few conversations led to me writing some music
for her jazz choir and me coming down to perform with them in a concert. It
sounds like it's going to be a fun performance. I'll be in town for a few days
meeting with classes and answering questions. I'm hoping that this leads to a
great long lasting relationship with Seminole Community College.
SATURDAY OCTOBER 25, 2008
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE in MORRISTOWN, TN.
SENSATIONS CONCERT
7PM
$5
Sensations is the show choir at Walters State. I will be accompanying them as
they present their fall concert. It looks like they will be performing
selections from "Wicked" and "Sweeny Todd." That's pretty challenging music. I'm
just saying.
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 2, 2008
WARTBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
3PM CONCERT
By this time it will have been four months since I've played in Wartburg, Tn.
That's WAY too long. I'm bringing a guest singer by the name of Ashley Sizemore.
I am also hoping to premiere some new music during this concert. Wartburg? I
better see all of you guys at the performance!!!
SUNDAY NOVEMBER 9, 2008
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT
THIRD CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH
6PM
This will be the second time I've done a concert here within the past year. The
last one went quite well. I'm hoping to make a lasting impression this time. I
know that a lot of the people that get this newsletter live close to this
church. I'd love to see you there.
Alright...whew! That's enough for the month, huh?
I'm in the middle of cooking dinner, so I have to go.
Thanks for your support.
I hope to see you at one...or all...of these events.
