HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #109

Hello, hello, hello, hello.....and yes, I know, I know, I know. I'm late with the newsletter. It's very flattering that I get so many e-mails when I'm late with the newsletter. But my lateness IS work related. that is thanks to the chral directors of Oak Ridge High School and Lenior City high School who have both commissioned arrangements with very quick turnaround times within the last two and a half weeks. It meant that every waking moment was all about getting those pieces done. But I'm finished now. SO....here's November:

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 9, 2008

WENDEL WERNER CONCERT

THIRD CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH

6PM

I'm thrilled to announce that the Knoxville Children's Choir will be the special guest for this concert. This will be the second time I've done a concert here within the past year. The last one went quite well. But this one will have some special meaning and I'm hoping to make a lasting impression this time. I know that a lot of the people that get this newsletter live close to this church. Even if you DON'T live close to the church, it would mean a lot to see you there.

MONDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2008

KNOXVILLE YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT

TENNESSEE THEATRE

7PM

Can I tell you how excited I am about this? Some of you know that I composed a piece of music called "The First Tango" that appeared on the "One Sitting" album. Over the summer, I contacted a friedn of mine named Kathy Hart-Reilly. She directs one of the orchestras under the Knoxville Youth Symphony umbrella. I contacted her because I had written an arrangement for a string orchestra of "The First Tango" but I wasn't sure about how to decide what to ask for in some of the markings for bows. I knew she would be honest with me. She literally listened to ten seconds of it and stopped me and said that she wanted to use the piece with HER orchestra. THIS evening will be the premiere of this orchestral piece. I've been to a couple of rehearsals. I twas interesting to see the kids' reaction to the fact that they were playing something by a composer that is actually ALIVE!! Please come and here this piece with me.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 22, 2009

WENDEL WERNER AND ERIK WERNER

MOONDOLLARS CAFE in OAK RIDGE, TN.

(dinner is available or just have dessert and coffee)

7PM-10PM

Many of you already know about what kind of stuff happens when my brother and I get together. It's been about three or four years since we've done a gig with JUST the two of us. For those that don't know, it's hard to describe. We have no plan. We don't discuss what we are going to do ahead of time. There's no rehearsal. What YOU hear will be a surprise to US as well....but it's ALWAYS a great amount of fun. I don't think this is something you want to miss.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 29, 2008

WENDEL WERNER CONCERT

ST. CLAIR BAPTIST CHURCH in SPRING CITY, TN.

6PM

This church had me come and perform a few months ago and they seemed to be very enthusiastic about the performance. Then again, they've never heard me do Christmas music before. They have no idea what they are getting into. I plan to have some special guests as well. I hope to make it an important, but fun, evening for everyone involved.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 30, 2008

HANGING OF THE GREENS SERVICE

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in HENDERSONVILLE, TN.

6:30PM

The last time I played at this church was almost a year ago. I remember being very blown away because it was my first time in the area. The church SHOULD have never heard of me, yet the place was FILLED with people. Completely packed. The pastor there has decided that I should come back and combine my Christmas music with their Hanging-of-the-Greens service. What we've been planning sounds like it will be very cool. If you live in the Nashville area, it would be nice to visit with you and see you.

So, nomally around this time i write something like, "That's enough for the month, huh?" BUT you should know that there are several events that I left out of this month's newsletter. I normally do not include when I'm playing a private function. But THIS month, there are FOUR private functions I'm playing. In addition to that, the UT Singers have four performances this month and that DOES NOT include the master class they are doing with the

world-famous vocal group known as ROCKAPELLA. (And there's the most important event of the month. NO...NOT Thanksgiving!! I'm talking about the 2-hour "24" movie on the 23rd!!!!!!!)

So it's a busy month. I hope to see you at one or all of these events. And I hope to not be as late with the newsletter next month as I am this month.

Thanks for your support.

I hope to see you at one...or all...of these events.
