NEWSLETTER #110

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL
WERNER NEWSLETTER #110
Happy Holidays!! It's December. Who has time for chit chat? Let's get
started....
FRIDAY DECEMBER 5, 2008
THE WENDEL-DESTROYS-ALL-CHRISTMAS-SONGS CONCERT
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
7PM
COST: COATS, CLOTHING, UNWRAPPED TOYS FOR TEENAGERS
It's that time again. I'm so pleased to see how this annual concert has grown.
As som of you know, it started off as a small concert in a coffeehouse. It then
moved to downtown Knoxville in the library. This year, we move to a bigger
church and the cost is an old coat, some clothing, or an unwrapped gift for a
teenager.
This year, we are gathering up clothing supplies for an organization called
STOREHOUSE MINISTIRES. They bring clothing and toys to people in rural Tennessee
that don't have the means to enjoy the holidays. I'm told that the things they
need the most are coats and things that teenagers would want. So...this
year...that is what it will cost you to get in.
Now, in addition to this, I have ALL KINDS of special guests. Singers like
Melissa Raines, Katy Free, Sandra Porter, and THE Sheryl Howard will all be
there. Plus I'll do some things with the Trinity Praise Team.
I think you'll have a great time. Please make sure you bring an old coat or
something for a teenager.
SATURDAY DECEMBER 6, 2008
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHORAL CONCERT
7:30PM
Well, what to tell you here? All of our choirs will perform. That's FOUR choirs.
I'll be directing the womens ensemble. One of the pieces they'll be doing is an
arrangement of mine. (I think it will be easy to tell which one is mine.) The
students would love to see you there.
SUNDAY DECEMBER 7, 2008
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
WARTBURG, TN.
3PM
Returning back to Wartburg is always an exciting thing. I'm hoping to make this
visit even more special. I'm hesitant to say how here because I would like it to
be a surprise but it includes me bringing some singers with me. We're are
planning some really cool musical things for this concert. Hopefully, you'll be
around.
MONDAY DECEMBER 8, 2008
GIBBS HIGH SCHOOL CHRISTMAS CONCERT
7PM
Well, I'll be honest with you. I haven't been to a rehearsal yet. I usually
accompany these choirs on their concerts...but I really don't know what they are
doing yet. I do know that Leslie Graves usually has very good groups. I also
know that one of the choirs is doing an arrangement of mine. An a cappella "Baby
It's Cold Outside."
The way I see it, I trust Leslie. If she's directing, the concert will be worth
the trip.
SUNDAY DECEMBER 14, 2008
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT
FIRST METHODIST CHURCH in FLUSHING, MICHIGAN.
6:30PM
These people are so nice to me. Anytime, I'm going to be on the road, they are
clear about the fact that they want me to stop by and play. So, I'm bringing
this year's Christmas concert to Michigan. If you are in the area, then you
better stop by.
MONDAY DECEMBER 15, 2008
CARMAN-AINSWORTH HIGH SCHOOL
10:30AM
FLUSHING MIDDLE SCHOOL
1PM
Okay, so Christie Dover...the music director at First Methodist in Flushing,
asked me to come to a school that she works for and do some playing there before
I leave town. So, I'll be doing that. And then....
Flushing Middle School. Here's what happened: members of a class were told to
write letters to famous people asking them how English is important to their
careers. One of these students, Megan Jaggers, chose ME to write to. Now, it
took a while, but I DID write back. I found out that I was one of three to write
back. (The others being Adam Sandler and John Travolta.) So the last time I was
in town, I stopped by the school and did some talking to some of the kids and
gave away some cds. This time...we'll do even more. I'll be doing a concert
there for the school after the performance at Carman-Ainsworth that morning. The
I'll leave town to come back home. Let's see Sandler and Travolta do THAT!!!
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 17, 2008
FRIENDSHIP CLUB at CONCORD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
10:30AM
This has become an annual event. The club has it's December meeting and they ask
me to be the entertainment about 11 months ahead. They want to make sure I'm
there. (There's even talk of moving the performance because last year we ran out
of room for people in the audience.)
FRIDAY DECEMBER 19, 2008
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT
GREYSTONE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
6:30PM
Okay...here's the big announcement....I'VE JUST BEEN NAMED THE NEW MUSIC
DIRECTOR FOR GREYSTONE PRESBYTERIAN STARTING IN JANUARY 2009. SO....if any of
you are looking for a place to sing and want to be involved in a fun choir, you
are welcome to join in. We even try to make it easy for you: our choir
rehearsals are right after the service on Sundays. SO we don't take up your
Wednesday nights.
This will be the concert I'll do right before getting started at the church. I
hope to make the concert a big enough event that the church is very happy that
they made the decision they made. Would you like to be there? It's free...come
on by.
SATURDAY DECEMBER 20, 2008
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT
WEARS VALLEY METHODIST CHURCH in PIGOEN FORGE, TN.
5PM
Okay...maybe it will make a difference knowing that there may a dinner involved
in this concert. The last time I was at Wears Valley doing a concert we were
raising money for their handbells. I actually think those VERY handbells will
make an appearance in this concert. Me and handbells in the same room. THERE'S a
Christmas treat for you!!
SATURDAY DECEMBER 27, 2008
MOONDOLLARS CAFE in OAK RIDGE, TN.
7PM-10PM
$$
So, here's what is going to happen on this evening: we are going to celebrate
that the holidays are over by getting each and every Christmas song out of our
system on this night!!! If you are ready to bring the Christmas season to halt,
then Moondollars is the place you want to be. Now...the last few times that I've
played there, it's been quite packed. It's becoming one of those places that I
have to warn you about arriving at least an hour early for. (Word is...they may
take a reservation on the day of the performance.)
SO...what did I NOT tell you about? There a couple of private functions
throughout the month. I'll be finishing up the semester at two colleges.
And...somewhere in there I'll need to do some shopping. SO, if I don't see you
at a performance, I'll probably see you in a store.
Thanks for your continued interest.
Have a good holiday.
