NEWSLETTER #113

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #113

I know, I know, I know, I know...I'm SOOOOO late with this month's newsletter. Allow me to explain:

I started off the month of MARCH working my way through the state of Florida lecturing on rock and roll musicians from the state. From there, I flew to Oklahoma City for the American Choral Dirctors convention. About a week later, I went on a tour with the UT Singers across the state of Tennessee. We came home on a Wednesday. The next day, I left with the Walters State Community College's Choir to a choral festival in Chicago. Then, with the new church job at Graystone Presbyterian, there was Palm Sunday followed by the Maundy Thursday service, and then the TWO Easter services. All that in addition to rehearsals and gigs and teaching at the two colleges, yeah. SO....I'm a little late.

So don't let me waste any more time. Let me get on with the month of April....

WENDEL WERNER PRESENTS...AT MOONDOALLRS CAFE in OAK RIDGE, TN.

SPECIAL GUESTS INCLUDE: Grace Partin, Ashley Sizemore, Megan Lange,

and FEATURING: Sandra Porter.

7PM-10PM

$10

I offered to help this place that has been so nice to me with some of their costs they gathered in their renovation efforts. It's a really nice performance space...and I use that space quite a bit. Why SHOULDN'T I help out? So, about every two months or so, I come in with numerous special guests. It's a night of really good music and all the money goes to whatever Moondollars needs to fix next.

SO...Grace is someone that is going to blow everyone away. Megan is much more talented than most people her age SHOULD be. Most people that have come to hear me within the past year have heard Ashley. (She will be performing on her own at Moondollars on April 30th.) AND....then there's Sandra Porter. I've performed with her just about everywhere. So, most of you know that she's going to be awesome.

Please make reservations...it ought to be a fun night.

BAKER-PETERS JAZZ CLUB

I'm playing with a group called "BLUESETTE" that is lead by Jason Thompson and features a singer named Kari Thompson. There's a lot of good players including Dave Slack, from the Sharon Mosby group. It looks like this may turn into a regular thing...but what will decide that is whether or not we can continually bring people in. We'd love to see you.

THE SUSHI STOP in POWELL, TN.

6pm-9pm

Jason Thompson, the sax player, got in touch with me telling me tht he's been playing this cool place in Powell. He asked me to come out and I did for a gig this past March. He is there every Thursday night, but I haven't been able to be there every week. This will be my second night. I HEAR the sushi is really good.. (I don't eat sushi.) Thye serve other stuff as well and all THAT stuff is good. (I HAVE eaten that stuff.) It's a very low-key vibe.

THE WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHORAL CONCERT

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in MORRISTOWN, TN.

7:30PM

It's that time of year. The students have worked incredibly hard on very challenging music. It will be very rewarding for them to show you what they've done. I'll be the one directing the women's ensemble. I think they will surprise you.

MOONDOLLARS CAFE in OAK RIDGE, TN.

w/ABBE ANDREWS, JESSICA BOLINGER, and MELANIE HOWE

7PM-10PM

$10

First of all, you should make reservations.

Second of all, this gig is so much fun. Most of you know that I've worked with all these people numerous times. But last month, I put them all on a gig together and it was such a blast that I booked them for this month's Moondollars gig the second we were done with the last one. Trust me, if you missed this before, please don't miss this performance. It's a GREAT amount of fun.

SHARON MOSBY TRIO w/TERRY SCHMIDT AND...well, me.

EAST TENNESSEE JAZZ SOCIETY MEETING

MARYVILLE, TN.

4:30PM-7PM

$10

This is always a great crowd. At the same time, it's always a little stressful to perform for a knowledgeable crowd. But the ETJS is always very supportive. If you can make it, then come on. Sharon is always worth the trouble...and most of you know what Terry Schmidt can do.

THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2009

THE SUSHI STOP in POWELL, TN.

6PM-9PM

Come eat some sushi and listen to a great player in Jason Thompson. Or come and eat something and listen to Jason. But come or...

THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2009

ASHLEY SIZEMORE at MOONDOLLARS CAFE

7PM-10pm

$3

You can always go out to Moondollars and hear Ashley Sizemore on her very first gig on her own. She's going to be fantastic. You WANT to be able to say you saw her when you only had to pay about $3. It won't be that way in about five years. You've been warned.

Okay...I promise that I won't be this late next month.

Besides...I'm going to have some VERY exciting news to bring to you in the next newsletter.

Thanks for your support,

Wendel Werner
