HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #119

 OKAY, OKAY, OKAY, OKAY!!!

For the past few weeks, I've heard from someone at least once a day pointing out how late I am with this month's newsletter. I didn't expect to get this far behind but, like a few times in the past, the month got away from me...and hear I am. SO...allow me to not make you wait any longer.

Here is what is LEFT of the month of October:

FRIDAY OCTOBER 16, 2009
THE COUNTRY CLUB in MORRISTOWN, TN
6PM-10PM

Should you be in the Morristown, hungry, and be a member of the Country Club, then you should come in and hear me. I'll be playing four hours straight. Surely, somewhere in those four hours, I'll play something you like.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 20, 2009
BAKER-PETRS JAZZ CLUB
w/JASON THOMPSON & ALONSO LEWIS
7:00PM-10:30PM
FREE

Two of the members of this band won't be around this time, so you'll just get the three of us. That makes it a completely different band. As a matter of fact, you'll be able to see the three of us TWICE this week.....

THURSDAY OCTOBER 22, 2009
SUSHI SPOT
W/JASON THOMPSON & ALONZO LEWIS
6:30PM-9:30PM
FREE

So, let's say you came to the Baker-Peters jazz club on the previous Tuesday, you really liked what you heard, AND you had a craving for sushi...where would you go? This will be the perfect place for you AND it's free.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 24, 2009
FUNDRAISING CONCERT
WALTERS STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE in MORRISTOWN, TN.
8:00PM
$10.00

This coming Spring, the Walters State Community College Choir is going to New York to work with a couple of renown choral directors. Well, that costs money, right? So this is the first of a few concerts designed to help offset the costs the students will have to pay. The first half of the concert will be performed by some of the students. I have the second half. I have heard some of the students rehearsing...it will be a fun concert. You shouldn't miss it. I don't say that about everything. But I'm involved in several performances this month that you shouldn't miss. This is one of them!!

SUNDAY OCTOBER 25, 2009
THE HAND-UP FOR WOMEN CONCERT (VOL. I)
GRAYSTONE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
6:00PM

I'm on the board of directors for an organization called HAND UP FOR WOMEN. What they do is identify women that are in situation they need help getting out of. These situations range from abusive relationships to substance abuse issues or any combination of really difficult times. The Hand Up organization is a religious-based group that assists in teaching a skill that can put the client in the workplace so that they can start to build a new life on their own.

I offered to do a concert as a way to help with fundraising and awareness, but then other churches heard about what I was doing. It has now become a series of FIVE CONCERTS throughout the next 12 months. This is the first one. each one will have a different focus or theme. This time, I'm performing with approximately 20-25 women.

I think this will be a very moving concert as well as a really fulfilling cause. PLEASE do your best to come and support this organization. (The next concert is in January at Trinity United Methodist Church.)

TUESDAY OCTOBER 27, 2009
BAKER-PETRS JAZZ CLUB
w/JASON THOMPSON
7:00PM-10:30PM
FREE

You know how this works. Fun players in a cool atmosphere and it's free.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 30, 2009
THE PREMIERE OF: THE WENDEL BAND
WENDEL WERNER, KATY FREE, JENNA LICKLITER, DANIELLE MADISON, and OLGA POWERS.
THE LAUREL MOUNTAIN EATERY - DOWNTOWN KNOXVILLE
7pm-10pm
cover charge - $5

So, it is possible that you may have seen this coming for a while. I've been a series a performances recently that included all of these ladies as I was working out the right combination of people. I think I've found it...and we'll be premiering the group on this evening.

The Laurel Mountain Eatery is in DOwntown Knoxville directly across form the Bijou. (NO...not the First Tennessee Building. DIAGONALLY across the street.) The food is GREAT. You HAVE to eat while you are there.

I think you will really enjoy this group. But all these ladies have lots of friends. If you want to sit, you may want to arrive at least by 6:30pm.

There will be a $5 cover. Now we've talked about this...don't come if you aren't planning on paying.

THIS IS ONE OF THE PERFORMANCES THIS MONTH THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 31, 2009
THE WENDEL BAND at MOONDOLLARS CAFE in OLIVER SPRINGS, TN.
8PM-10PM
$5-COVER CHARGE

Bad news...Moondollars Cafe closed its doors since I've last talked to you guys. Good news...Moondollars cafe has re-opened in Oliver Springs since I last talked to you. My first time in the new space will be on Halloween. Don't want to fool with the children and the candy? Come to the new Moondollars.

In the spirit of Halloween, we will dress up as someone else. The last 45 minutes of the performance will have us pretending we are Billy Joel as we perform his famous album "The Stranger" in its entirety.

Okay...some other things to inform you about:

*This month, drummer Tim Paul, bassist Dave Slack, and I are putting the finishing touches on our jazz piano trio album called "Nothing Personal." You should be able to purchase it starting in November. All of you will be informed when it comes out. As a matter of fact...i just MIGHT open up a facebook account just so all of you can know about it.

*Sharon Mosby and the Wendel Werner Quintet will be performing at the Knoxville Museum of Art on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend. They expect the place to be packed. Doors open at 5pm. If you want a seat, you should be there no later than 4:45pm. We play from 5:30pm-8:00pm.

*It looks like we are a couple of months away from the release of the "Live at Moondollars Cafe Vol. I" album. Again, I susp[ect there may be a facebook page that will keep everyone up to date.

As always, you can plan on being kept up to date right here.

I'll try to be more on time next month.

Thank you for your support.
