NEWSLETTER #124
by Wendel Werner

HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER#124

Hey, look at me. I'm actually getting a newsletter out to you all EARLY!!! I'm trying to make up for making everyone wait so long last time. Before I start the month of May, allow me to follow up on some things I discussed last month:

"NOTHING PERSONAL." That's the title of the jazz piano trio recording I've done with drummer Tim Paul and bassist Dave Slack. It is going to be released on Saturday January 23, 2010 at Bill Jones Music on Kingston Pike here in Knoxville, Tn. Word is that the celebration concert we are giving that night, which includes guest appearances by Terry Schmidt and Sharon Mosby, is ALREADY the biggest attended concert that Bill Jones Music has ever done...and it hasn't happened yet. There will be a reception after the concert catered by the wonderful people that used to operate Moondollars Cafe.

I will now be playing at Remedy Coffee in the Old City every Tuesday night. You will want to check here or my website to make SURE as there were SOME Tuesdays that I already had committed for gigs, But, for the most part, I'll be playing there every Tuesday night from 8pm-10pm. It's free...with the exception of what you want to put in the tip jar, which I hope is a lot!!

Okay, let's get started with the month of May, starting with the end of April...

One more item. I was informed a few weeks ago that the website known as www.mainlypiano.com listed my "One Sitting" album as one of the top 40 albums of the decade. You can't know how honored I was to learn this especially after seeing some of the other names on the list. I'm quite flattered.

And now, the month of January...

Last month, I hinted that I will have a special guest this time around. I will end the night by a doing a few songs with Remy Viator, a tuba player from Carter High School. It's going to be pretty unique and a LOT of fun. . It's not something you want to miss, I don't think.

FRIDAY APRIL 30, 2010
BATTLE OF THE BANDS CONTEST in OAK RIDGE, TN.
6PM

No, I'm not competing. I'm a judge. I guess that makes me similar to one of those American Idol judges. Wonder which one I am?

SATURDAY MAY 1, 2010

FRIDAY MAY 7, 2010
WENDEL WERNER and THE HOUSE BAND
RELAY FOR LIFE kickoff event in CROSSVILLE, TN.
FAIRGROUNDS
6PM (central standard time)

Last year, the Relay for Life event was started by an hour and a half of this blues band called Wendel Werner and the House band. Well, we must have made an impression. They asked us back within about a month of finishing the performance last year. YOu can come and participate or just come and watch. Either way, we will be doing our best to play music that will inspire people to keep walking while raising money for a great cause.

TUESDAY MAY 11, 2010
HARDIN VALLEY ACADEMY SPRING CONCERT

This is ALSO Teresa Scoggins' program. I work as the accompanist for this group as well. This concert will involve three different choirs.

THURSDAY MAY 13, 2010
GIBBS HIGH SCHOOL SPRING CONCERT

And then, I drive to the other side of town and work as the accompanist for Leslie Graves' five choirs.

SATURDAY MAY 15, 2010
JOHHN RIBBLE CONCERT SERIES at GRAYSTONE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH:
BARBERSHOP FESTIVAL
4PM
$10

One of the first things I did when I started working as the music director at Graystone was install the John Ribble Concert Series, named after the Graystone music director for over 40 years...and a friend of mine. Mr. Ribble was always very involved in barbershop music and sang in quartets for a large part of his life.

As a result, the last concert of this season is a concert that will feature two choruses and at least THREE quartets. The show will be a great amount of fun and you will be out by dinner. It will be great fun. Please come support this program and the concert series.

TUESDAY MAY 18, 2010
REMEDY COFFEE in the OLD CITY
8PM-10PM

This is my return to playing every Tuesday since I'll be playing for high school students the previous Tuesday. I promise to pay some of your favorite songs.

TUESDAY MAY 25, 2010
REMEDY COFFEE in the OLD CITY

And in case you missed LAST Tuesday, you will be able to make up for it by coming on this night. As usual, I'm blown away with your continued support. Please know that is never taken for granted.

Thank you,
Wendel
