NEWSLETTER #125
by Wendel Werner

HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER#125

Well, I have to say that I'm really blown away by those of you that get this newsletter. I've never had so many angry people come at me in my life. "You haven't updated the website calendar," "You haven't sent out a newsletter recently," "HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO KEEP UP WITH YOU IF YOU DON'T SEND US THESE THINGS?!?!?"
I've heard all these things within the past 10 days. On the average of twice a day. I always THINK i have an idea of how many people read this newsletter, but you guys continue to humble me.

SO...please allow my very humble apologies for doubting your interest and not keeping up with the frequency you've become accustomed. Let's catch you up to date:

*Alan Eleazer and I have started discussing and planning the next album. And yes, we HAVE definitely planned on a 2011 summer tour.
*My much-delayed live album is now looking at a 2010 December release.

*You may also expect a UT Singers recording become available as of late this coming fall.

*In the meantime, I expect to be announcing that the jazz trio album released last Spring, "Nothing Personal," with drummer Tim Paul and bassist Dave Slack to be available online within the month.
Okay, let's get started with the month of August, starting with the end of July...

FRIDAY JULY 31, 2010
THE WENDEL BAND
REMEDY COFFEE in the OLD CITY
8pm-10pm

This band consists of me, Danielle Madison, and Katy Free. We are here at Remedy on the average of once a month (even though the ladies perform here individually with me as their pianist). We are a lot of fun, but we'd like to think you hear really good music as well. But you ought to come and decide for yourself. It's free...with the exception of what you put in the tip jar.
TUESDAY AUGUST 3, 2010
REMEDY COFFEE in the OLD CITY
8pm-10pm

I also play here simply doing solo piano stuff every Tuesday. It's a little quieter than the Saturday night gigs. A lot more intimate, but also free.
TUESDAY AUGUST 10, 2010

Just in case you missed the previous Tuesday evening.

SATURDAY AUGUST 14, 2010
TWILIGHT AT TINKER HOUSE in ROCKFORD, IL (outside of Chicago)
6pm

I know I have lots of fans in the Chicagoland area. Hopefully you will make the trip to Rockford on this night so that I can perform for you in this scenic outdoors area, right in front of the landmark Tinker House. The last time I was there, the performance went really well. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of UT alumni there.

MONDAY AUGUST 16, 2010
THE KATY FREE TRIO WITH WENDEL WERNER AND MIKE STALLINGS
BAKER-PETERS JAZZ CLUB
7pm-11pm

On Monday nights, the Baker-Peters jazz club serves lots of seafood (you can eat something else if you like) in addition to the live music. I was recently asked to put together entertainment for them for a couple of their Mondays in August. Katy Free, of the Wendel Band, had recently performed somewhere with me AND Mike Stallings on keyboards and she couldn't stop talking about how she thought that would be her perfect "trio." So when this came up, I asked her and Mike about it and here we are. It's free!!! Please come check out how much fun we are.

TUESDAY AUGUST 17, 2010

THURSDAY AUGUST 26, 2010
HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL lecture in CINCINNATI, OH.
Venue TBA
6pm ($$)

Many of you know that I used to teach a class called The History of Rock and Roll at the University of Tennessee. What you may not know is that since that has stopped, the alumni office has LITERALLY sent me all over the country to give similar lectures at UT alumni functions as some special event: "WENDEL IS COMING TO YOUR CITY TO DISCUSS ROCK AND ROLL!! WOO-HOO!!" What I do is tailor the lecture to the city or state in which I'm speaking. So we are going to discuss how Cincinnati affects the history of rock and roll. If you are interested in coming for dinner and Wendel(that includes all of my friends in Columbus and Lexington), let me know and I'll get you venue and cost information.

FRIDAY AUGUST 27, 2010
HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL lecture in INDIANAPOLIS, IN.
Venue TBA
6pm ($$)

(here's the magic of "cut and paste") Many of you know that I used to teach a class called The History of Rock and Roll at the University of Tennessee. So we are going to discuss how the state of Indiana affects the history of rock and roll. If you are interested in coming for dinner and Wendel(that includes all of my friends in Lexington), let me know and I'll get you venue and cost information.

AND NOW BEGINS THE MUSIC FESTIVAL KNOWN AS "THREE DAYS OF WENDEL!!!

SUNDAY AUGUST 29, 2010
CAMP MEETING
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
6pm

Those of you that have been on the newsletter list for a long time remember that on the last Sunday of August, Trinity United Methodist has a a Sunday night camp meeting service that is all music. They have always been kind to invite me and have me do a few tunes. This year, probably because it's my birthday, Sheryl Howard (music director for the church) said, "Let's just turn the whole thing over to you." That probably wasn't smart, BUT it's too late now!!! You may want to come down to see what I come up with...and whether or not the church will have me back. (After you visit Graystone Church that morning.)
