NEWSLETTER #126
by Wendel Werner
HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO
THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER#126
First of all, thanks to all of you that sent me birthday wishes on August 30. I didn't realize I knew as many people as I do. It was very nice to hear from you.
So, I'm looking at the things I sent out last month and I feel the need to update some of those things. For instance:
*LAST MONTH: I said, "Alan Eleazer and I have started discussing and planning the next album. And yes, we HAVE definitely planned on a 2011 summer tour."
THIS MONTH...the process has started. We've had a rehearsal. Discussed/rehearsed five or six song ideas. Have already started performing one of them. Want to hear them? Hire us for a concert!!
.
*LAST MONTH: I said, "In the meantime, I expect to be announcing that the jazz trio album released last Spring, "Nothing Personal," with drummer Tim Paul and bassist Dave Slack to be available online within the month."
THIS MONTH...well, was I surpirsed!! We sent four copies to cdbaby.com. (They asked for 2 copies.) They, in turn, put them all over the internet. (Digistation, itunes) Well, before I had a chance to announce that the cds were available, all four were sold. They've asked for another four. We sent 10. They ought to be up and ready within the next couple of days. I'll be announcing the availability soon.
One last thing, I am pleased to announce GRACE PARTIN as the new member of the WENDEL BAND. If you've seen the group before, you know that we have fluctuated between the numbers of ladies we've had. We lost JENNA LICKLITER and OLGA POWERS. The remaining ladies, KATY FREE and DANIELLE MADISON, were both asked to put together a list of five ladies they'd like to work with. Grace was at the top of both lists. She makes her debut with the Wendel Band on Saturday September 18 at Remedy Coffeehouse in the Old City at 8pm.
Okay, here's the month of September:
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3, 2010
THE WENDEL BAND at the PALACE THEATRE in CROSSVILLE, TN.
w/KATY AND FREE and DANIELLE MADISON and special guest AMANDA STEPHENS LEWIS
AN ALL-GOSPEL CONCERT
7pm (CST)
$10
The Crossville-area promoters, PAART, asked me almost a year ago if I had any interest in bringing an all-gospel concert to Crossville to promote National Gospel Heritage Month. So, I'm bringing over the Wendel Band and having Crossville favorite, Amanda Stephens Lewis as a special guest. We have some fun stuff planned as well as some very meaningful music on board. BUT you'll only hear them if you are there!!
Many of you know that I used to teach a class called The History of Rock and Roll at the University of Tennessee. What you may not know is that since that has stopped, the alumni office has LITERALLY sent me all over the country to give similar lectures at UT alumni functions as some special event: "WENDEL IS COMING TO YOUR CITY TO DISCUSS ROCK AND ROLL!! WOO-HOO!!" What I do is tailor the lecture to the city or state in which I'm speaking. So we are going to discuss how THE STATE OF TENNESSEE affects the history of rock and roll. If you are interested in coming, let me know and I'll get you venue and cost information. FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 10, 2010 I'll let you in on a little secret. Katy has been secretly going to her composer friends and asking them all to compose a couple of things for her as she prepares her first album, all music specifically written FOR her. Now I have no idea if she is going to do any of that stuff on this night. But, just in case, you may want to come. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 Did you already have plans for the previous night? You're in luck since Katy is performing at Remedy on this night as well. It's free. We'll be waiting for you. SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 2010 Kathy is a gifted singer that recently became a member of the church that employs me as their music director. In this rare concert appearance, she will be accompanied by Rachel Ribble for the first half of the performance. I'll come in and try to hold up my end during the latter half. Come hear what Kathy and Graystone have to offer. TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 Just in case you really like coming down on Tuesdays. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2010 So it's the debut performance of Grace Partin with the group. We'll be introducing some new music. You'll hear a Grace Partin original song. You would think that would be enough for one night, right? But no...right after we are done at Remedy.... SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2010 That's right. right after we are done at Remedy, we head over the to do that show at the Baker-Peters Jazz Club. We'll be indoors and QUITE intimate. The last time we did the late show, it was VERY well received. Come see why OR just spend the evening with the WENDEL BAND. TUESDAY AUGUST 24, 2010 Again, every Tuesday night. SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 26, 2010 Many of you know that I am on the board of directors for the Hand Up for Women organization. I did three concerts during the first half of the year in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the group that takes women that are living on the streets and gives them the tools to be able live and function in mainstream society. The fourth concert will be here at Bearden United Methodist Church. The previous concerts ALL had no fewer than 30 performers...in EACH concert. If you haven't attended a Hand Up concert, you owe it to yourself to come and see why we are working so hard for this organization. It's THAT important.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 Every Tuesday!!!
FRIDAY OCTOBER 1, 2010 Danielle Madison is an accomplished singer that sometimes lets us work with her in the Wendel Band. Here, she'll hold her own while doing a mixture of jazz standards and original pieces. It's free. And she's good.
AND THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN... That's right AGAIN!!! This time, we go straight from the Pizza Kitchen to the late show at the Baker Peters Jazz Club. Another evening with the WENDEL BAND. Your support never goes unnoticed and is never taken for granted. When I get tired, it the response from all of you that reminds me of why I do what I do.
Thanks for that.
