NEWSLETTER #130
by Wendel Werner

HELLO EVERYONE AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #130

Yes, I know. It looks as if there was a jump in the numbers of the newsletter but my manager tells me that I've had the numbers wrong for a while now. Anyway, THIS one is #130.

And because I'm a LITTLE late with this one, then I feel the need to go back and at least mention some of the things that this newsletter missed.
The WENDEL BAND had a great gig in Crossville, Tn. at the historic Palace Theatre on February 4. Thanks to debra and Terry at the Palace for having us. we look forward to coming back. (I'm actually in the process of setting up a gig in which I could be in the Crossville area about once a month. Be on the lookout for that announcement.)
The Katy Free Trio returned to Remedy Coffee on February 5th. They will return to that venue on March 5th. (But you will be able to see them elsewhere before then. Keep reading.) Thanks to everyone that came to the Alan Eleazer and Wendel Werner concert in Clinton, Tn at the end of January. (It looks like we are in talks about returning to that venue as well.)

Other news before we start with the month of February:
*Alan Eleazer and I have officially jumped head first into the recording studio. We are in the middle of recording TWO albums. The plan is that the new one will be done by the end of spring, in time for the summer tour. The second recording will be a Christmas album.

*I have had the pleasure of working with a new singer in the area that has moved here from Chicago. Her name is Sarah Ashley. She will make her debut this month with her cabaret performance on Saturday February 19. Details further in this newsletter.

*There are a couple of fundraising concerts this month that I'm involved in.
The first is on Sunday February 20 at First Presbyterian Church in Oak Ridge. to raise money to send some people to Belize to bring them drinking water. There will be loads of special guests and the concert will start at 6pm.
The second is a week later, February 27 in Maryville, Tn at Fourth Presbyterian Church. This concert is raising money that goes toward healthcare and education for poverty-stricken areas in Bolivia. Again, loads of special guests. That concert starts at 7pm.

Alright...let's get started....

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2011
ALL-SING
Civic Auditorium
7pm
$$$

Every year, various organizations get together for a major choral competition called All-Sing. They hire directors (like me) to come in and run their lives for about six weeks. This will be the big night. You'll hear a lot of good groups...and some not so good...but the evening is ALWAYS entertaining. Either way, each group has worked very hard. Please come. You will not be disappointed.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 18, 2011
THE KATY FREE TRIO featuring Wendel Werner and Melanie Howe
the BROWN CUP CAFE in LENOIR CITY, TN.
8pm-10pm

Katy returns to the Brown Cup on this night. the last two times she has been there, the crowds have been bigger and bigger. As of 8:15pm, it was hard to find a seat. From now on, you may want to consider arriving early for her performances here.

FEBRUARY 19, 2011
SARAH ASHLEY Cabaret Performance
House Concert in Maryville, Tn.
7:30pm
$12

This is the singer I was telling you about. This show is cleverly written and Sarah has found some miraculous way of singing and talking about VERY delicate subject while still making it very funny. If you can make it, please contact me so that I can tell you where this is. One would usually have to go to a major city to get these types of performances. This one is in your backyard...BUT tickets are VERY limited. You'd want to move quickly on this.

FEBRUARY 20, 2011
WENDEL WERNER AND FRIENDS CONCERT: WATER FOR BELIZE
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in OAK RIDGE, TN.
6pm

This concert is one of the fundraising concerts I was telling you about. This church has sent people to Belize on the average of once a year for several years with the purposes of setting up a system for clean water to be pumped into the area. All of that has finally been done. THIS TRIP IS ALL ABOUT BRINGING THEM THE WATER. So it's quite a celebratory occasion but they still need some help getting these people there. That's where we come in. The final line-up of people is till being assembled but at this time we can announce appearances by the following people:
JEFF KILE
DANIELLE MADISON
KATY FREE
ladies of SAI, UT's chapter of the musical fraternity
the youth choir and adult choir of First Presbyterian Church.
It's going to be a big night. Please come help these people help Belize.

I have been on a sabbatical for the past month from Remedy on Tuesday nights. (Remember the All-Sing event I told you about at the top of the newsletter?) I return on this night and I come bringing the celebrated Grace Partin. Thanks to Remedy for letting me take some time. In return, I'm hoping that my return will be a big night. Grace is planning some pretty impressive things.

We have dedicated ourselves to make sure that EVERY TIME we are appearing at remedy this year, we have new music to premiere. Be prepared. This will be the case. PLUS...we WILL be bringing prizes. Don't know what we're talking about, come and find out!!!

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 27, 2011
CONCERT FOR CASAdeSARA
FOURTH PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
MARYVILLE, TN.
7pm

Casa de Sara is an organization that raises money donated to healthcare and education in the low-income areas of Bolivia. You can learn more about them at www.casadesara.org.
I was asked to be part of a major concert top help raise money for this program. Some of the other musicians involved are Liz Peterson and the organist of the Tennessee Theatre, THE Dr. Bill Snyder. I have been asked to do around 20 minutes...but i am still planning on bringing my own special guests. (plural) I haven't told the people putting on the concert that yet.
I like to surprise people.
Come see what I'm planning...while supporting a great cause.

SATURDAY MARCH 5, 2011
THE KATY FREE TRIO featuring Wendel Werner and Melanie Howe
Remedy Coffee
8pm-10pm

Katy returns to Remedy with her trio as part of her agreement to be at Remedy the first Saturday of every month. she has instructed me to be the person in charge of the song order....so one never knows what she's going to get. you may want to see how we all react to that.

One last thing, I recently told you of how my 73 year old mother just recently won a gold medal in a 3 mile race and how she was the oldest person in the day's events to win a gold medal.

She turned 74 this month.
Happy Birthday, Mom.
