NEWSLETTER #76
by Wendel Werner

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #76

          happy new year, everyone!!!

yes, i know...there's a lot of people who have mentioned that they
didn't get a newsletter in December. well, that's because a newsletter
didn't go out in December. but, i don't want to leave you out of any
information...and there's a lot to update you on..so get a chair..this will
take a while:

*in December, i completed my first ever solo tour. it was much more
successful than i ever would have guessed. so much so, that an 11-day tour
is already in the works for august. dates are already being scheduled. looks
like the tour will start in Columbia, sc, two performances in Louisville,
KY, two performances in Maine, and ending with two performances in flushing,
Michigan. there are still dates in-between that i'm working on filling so, if
anyone has any suggestions for performances in Ohio or the
northeast...please don't hesitate to let me know.

*my latest CD, "loss," has been named "one of the best CDs of 2005" by
Solo Piano Publications, a website dedicated to solo piano music. i was VERY
flattered to receive that news. it seems that they REALLY love the album. a
review will show up on their website in January. do a search for "solo piano
publications" and it will be right there for you. want the album for
yourself? you can order it at wendelwerner.com, get one at one of my
performances, or go to any disc exchange in the Knoxville area.

*speaking of what's on the website...within a week of you receiving
this, i will finally have the music to some of my compositions available on
the website. initially, you'll be able to purchase the following:
"Canada bound" (SATB a cappella spiritual based on the underground
railroad)
"when the cool comes down" (SATB a cappella jazz choral arr.)
"what shall i call my baby boy?" (Christmas piece for solo female and
SATB choir)
"biblical waters suite" (SATB w/soloists, piano, string quartet,
flute..choral suite based on bodies of
water found in the Bible.)
"loss" (jazz charts to all the music on the "loss" album.)
all these pieces will be available within a couple of weeks in addition
to a photo gallery going up in February.

*I'll be back in the studio in early march for my next solo recording.
the new CD...which isn't titled yet..will probably be released in august in
conjunction with the august tour.

*i'm no longer working at concord united methodist church. that was a
very difficult decision, but the bottom line was that, after seven years, it
was just time for me to go. don't worry..there will be a tune written for
those kind people on the next album. they will all be missed.

*the next semester begins in a few weeks. at walters state community
college, I'll be teaching 1 class piano course, 2 ear training courses, and
one theory class. at the university of tennessee, I'll be directing the UT
singers..which includes a tour through the state of tennessee in
march...teaching a class on world music, and two classes on the history of
rock and roll. it looks like the world music course will have about 60
people in it...but the rock classes will again be a combined total of about
800.

*several of you have asked about the state of "Esther"...the large
piece of music i'm writing based on this book in the bible. it looks like
the piece will FINALLY be finished by the end of January. then it will be
placed in hands of a local church that is waiting to see how it turns out
BEFORE they agree to do it. trust me...i understand completely.

*thanks to all of you that came to my chirstmas concert in early
December. (the place was PACKED) you will all be pleased to know that the
songs with special guest leslie graves went so well that i'm having her come
back in April. and...it looks like what we are planning will be even more
fun that what you saw at the Christmas concert. i wouldn't lie to you about
this.
