NEWSLETTER #95

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #95

Wow...as I am typing this, I'm realizing that I'm five newsletters away from #100. I've been doing this for almost eight years. I remember that initially I sent them all through snail mail. I want you all to know that I'm aware I couldn't do the newsletter for eight years without your interest. I recall arguing with friends of mine when I asked who would WANT to get newsletter from me. And now...here we are. Thanks.

I apologize for the month being so late. I just finished teaching a summer class at the University of Tennessee this past Friday. Then I was out of town for the weekend. That brings us up to date.

So, it seems that I have a few announcements before I get started with the dates for August. The first one:

I'm proud to announce that the latest CD, "Spiritual" is now availabl e online on itunes, CD Baby, and Digstation. Please help yourselves to these websites, browse all you want, purchase a song or the entire CD. I can even be a ringtone. Every time your phone rings, it will be ME on the line.
If you go to my website: www.wendelwerner.com you will see a picture of the "Spiritual" CD cover on the homepage. If you click on that, it will take you directly to www.cdbaby.com. You will be able to order anything you want from there. I know that several of you have trouble ordering a CD from my website before. I think I've fixed everything and the people at cdbaby seem to be VERY helpful. You shouldn't have any problems.

Many of you have inquired about me playing at Cha Cha's and wondering what happened there. It was very simple, I took the summer off. I knew I was going to be doing a lot of traveling and the people at Cha Cha's were kind enough to allow that to happen. BUT...I will be returning to Cha Cha's starting the first Wednesday of September. Then it will be business as usual. Every Wednesday from 7pm-10pm.

Classes at the University of Tennessee start the week of August 20. I will be starting my 7th year as the director of the UT Singers, UT's jazz choir.
Classes at Walters State Community College start the week of August 27. In addition to teaching Ear Training, Class Piano, and Music Appreciation, and giving private lessons, I will be directing the women's choir at one branch of the college and directing the concert choir at another branch of the college. So, I'm trying to enjoy the week of down time I have.

Okay...here is the month of August:

FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 2007
SHARON MOSBY W/WENDEL WERNER, TERRY SCHMIDT, DAVE SLACK, AND TIM PAUL
THE BROKER
8PM-11P M
$10 COVER CHARGE

Several of you have asked about this place. PLEASE GIVE THIS VENUE A CHANCE!! The Broker is a new place that has opened in Knoxville, 3434 Martin Luther King Blvd. The snacks they serve are free. There is no smoking. They ask that you dress nice when you come. They prefer that you listen to the music instead of talk OVER the music. And there is no smoking. HOW MANY PLACES IN KNOXVILLE ASK FOR ALL THOSE THINGS? Those of us in the band LOVE this venue. We want you to love it, too...but that means you have to come. The cover charge is a little higher than you may be used to seeing. It IS $10...but that is solely to make sure the band is paid. That money goes directly to us.
I'll even give you directions: You take magnolia going east (AWAY from downtown) until you get to MARY st. on your right. (right before chilhowee park) Take MARY until you get to Martin Luther Ki ng and then take left. THE BROKER WILL BE ON YOUR RIGHT.
Again, this is a real nice place that doesn't get the attention it deserves. PLEASE come and see us. We'll see to it that you have a good time.

ALAN ELEAZER AND WENDEL WERNER
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
7PM
FREE

Every August, this church has these fun "camp meeting" services on Sunday evenings. This time, they've asked Alan and I to perform. You never know what you are going see with the two of us. That should be worth the price of admission alone.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2007
WENDEL WERNER AND TERRY SCHMIDT
PIZZA KITCHEN
8PM-10PM
FREE

Well, thanks to all of you, we are currently in discussions with the Pizza Kitchen about having us perform once a month for the rest of the year. So thanks for your support. Terry and I love playing here. It always amazes us how this place goes from being a loud, fun pizza house to a jazz club the second we start playing. Even the employees go on and on about having us play. Let me let you in on a secret. When the employees make it a point to say the enjoyed you, you're doing something right. The employees hear EVERYBODY. Thanks, guys.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2007
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
ALL DAY
8:45AM SERVICE
11AM SERVICE
7PM "CAMP MEETING" SERVICE

Yeah, that thing that Alan and I are doing the week before, the church is having me back for the day. I haven't been told what I'm doing yet...but knowing Sheryl Howard, music director and former Just In Time member, it will be fun and challenging. I hope you can make it.

AUGUST 30, 2007

There's no performance here. It' s just my birthday. I'll accept whatever kind of gift you'd like to give.

That's all for August.
Again, I couldn't get this close to 100 newsletters without your support. Thank you very much.
