NEWSLETTER #97
by Wendel Werner

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE WENDEL WERNER NEWSLETTER #97

How is everyone? Me? I'm trying to survive. September took a little bit more of a toll than I had anticipated. All the gigs, teaching at three different colleges, all the driving, rehearsals...there were a couple of weeks straight that I left the house around 6-7am in the morning and did not come home until after 11pm. That's EVERY DAY for a couple of weeks. The bad news is that almost ALL of October will be this way. The good news is that I'm used to it.
I know some of you have sent me messages that not brought responses. I'm not ignoring. I'm getting there, I promise.

Okay...enough of that. Want to know what is going on in October? Take a seat, this may take a while:

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2007
CHA CHA'S (in Homberg Place)
7PM-10PM

Everyone has been really nice since I returned to Cha Cha's. It seems that every time I there at least two tables are there because I am there. That's very flattering. Thanks for keeping me working. For those that haven't come yet? What's keeping you????

THE RARE WENDEL WERNER BLUES CONCERT OF THE YEAR!!!

So, here's what you'll get...a guitar player named Larry Trotter (from the Blues Disciples), drummer Tom Baker, percussionist Melanie Howe, singers Amanda Stephens, Abbe Andrews, Jessica Bolinger, and Sandra Porter. Oh...AND Terry Schmidt on saxophones...and me. Nothing but blues all night long. Please keep in mind that Crossville is in the central time zone. Now all of you should know that in our rehearsals, the MUSICIANS have gotten REALLY excited about what you're going to hear. (we don't get excited about anything!!) Those of you that live in Knoxville and Nashville, I think it will be worth the drive. PLEASE don't miss this.

The performance will be my first as the director of the Concert Choir from the Sevierville branch of Walters State. The Womens Ensemble from the Morristown branch will perform as well, also under my direction. The concert will include a performance by the Lakeway Children's Choir as well. It looks like it will be a wonderful afternoon . If you find yourself in the area, please come and hear the progress we are making.

GIBBS HIGH SCHOOL FALL CHORAL CONCERT

I normally work as the accompanist for the choral concerts of Gibbs High School and this time is no exception. The concerts are often of a very high quality as Leslie Graves is a highly respected choral director in the area. I can promise a wonderful concert.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2007
TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

To be honest, I have no idea of what I'm doing at these services. What I DO know is that Sheryl Howard, the music director, always comes up with something cool that makes it worth the while.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2007
BEARDEN HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT
7PM
$5

&nbs p; No, I'm not playing in this concert. Instead, I'm fortunate enough that the choir is performing a piece of mine in this concert. It's a very flattering thing to have schools ask to do pieces of mine. Let's see if I can get this right...as of this school year there will have been six colleges, two community choirs, and six high schools that have done pieces of mine...all over the country. This is will make the seventh high school.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2007
CHA CHA'S (in Homberg Place)

This is in case you couldn't come the previous week. Well, NOT the previous week because I won't BE there the previous week...but the week before. Well...yeah...you know what I mean.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2007
CHA CHA'S (in Homberg Place)

So, what I'd LIKE to do is of fer some sort of prize for the most "interesting" halloween outfit I see at Cha Cha's on this night...but I am not sure what the appropriate prize would be. Any suggestions???

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2007
WENDEL WERNER CONCERT
MARYVILLE FRIENDS CHURCH
MARYVILLE, TN
3PM
FREE

Well, this church got in touch asking for a concert because they HEARD about some of the concert I'd been doing in other places. You know what THIS means? It means they have NO IDEA what is about to happen to them. You should come and see how they react to the things I'm going to do!!!

Whew....that's a lot of stuff. And I didn't include the private functions I'm playing as well. The important thing to remember is that I wouldn't be this busy if not for all of you being so kind for this long. Thanks.
